Common questions
What should I do first if a pipe bursts?
Turn off the main stop tap. Then, if water is anywhere near sockets or wiring, switch the power off at the fuse box. Both take seconds. They do more to limit the damage than anything else you can do before someone gets there. If you have a tank on the roof, close the tap on that too, or it will keep feeding the leak.
Why does my drain keep blocking?
If it blocks in the same place again and again, something is wrong with the pipe itself. Usually it does not run downhill enough, a tree root has got in, or a section is damaged. It is rarely about what you are putting down it. Clearing it every few months just treats the symptom.
I have no hot water. Is the solar system broken?
Usually not. On a roof tank the winter fault is nearly always the electric backup heater or its thermostat. That is a small repair. It is much cheaper than a new tank, so get a second opinion if someone quotes you for one.
